Birth of the Project

I always secretly enjoyed writing essays in school. Getting my thoughts and feelings on paper was easy, and I had a knack for cranking those pages out the night before they were due and staying coherent in my writing. What I didn't like was being forced to write something specific.

Growing up, there was usually some sort of story floating around in my head. This was only intensified by my obsession with movie soundtracks. The first one I remember falling in love with was the song in A Goofy Movie when Goofy's car rolls away down the canyon. I could picture every action and dialogue in that scene as I listened to the music, and I would frequently tell my parents what was happening at any given point.

As my love of soundtracks expanded to John Williams’ iconic scores, music from the Jason Bourne series, and anything by Hans Zimmer, my imagination expanded and I was able to formulate important action and adventure sequences for my books. To this day, I still listen to soundtracks whenever I need an idea to push the story forward.

I never planned to be an author. It just sort of happened. One day when I was 10, my friend and I were bored and we decided to write a book. We sat down and wrote a simple story about some kids and their chunky baby brother who gained super powers. It was called Super Chunk, and it was … written by a ten-year-old. I still have it and may release it on the website someday, but it blatantly copies other super heroes’ origin stories and even Harry Potter

I realized then that I loved coming up with fun ideas and putting them on paper. A couple years later, I decided to stop plagiarizing and start a new, original story. I kept a handful of characters’ names but eliminated super powers altogether. But the concept of an organization dedicated to saving the world remained with me - and The Vigilance Project was born.

I’m not really sure what other people daydream about, but most of my thoughts drift to my story - the characters, the plot, and what soundtrack might inspire the upcoming scene I need to write. I have an epic story in my head and need to get it on paper. My hope is to bring an original, exhilarating adventure to my readers that will inspire them to take on any challenge they’re facing … but if nothing else, provide an escape to another world where the simplest of people can make the biggest difference.
